Looking back to your preliminary task, what do you feel that you have learnt in the progression from it to the final product?

Looking at my final designs for my preliminary task and main task I can see a clear progression from then till now. My front cover page is more structured and detailed, which looks more attractive and sophisticated. The preliminary task enabled me to learn the fundamental basics of how to use different technologies such as Photoshop – these skills were then transferred to the main task with an addition of many others. This is very clear with the colour scheme used as I learnt how to attract my target audience well through the research and planning done. E.g. pink has connotations with being ‘girly’ which is effective as girls are my target audience. As oppose to the colour scheme of black and orange used for my college magazine which isn't  as effective and is quite hard on the eye.
The main addition I have noticed with my contrasting contents pages is how they are structured within the page. With my preliminary task the page numbers are randomly placed around rather than placed with in a structured box as done so in my main task contents page. More pictures have also been used as I have learnt through photo shop how to crop and place images around a page effectively.

Overall, I felt I have learnt most about how to use different technologies in order to attract my target audience.

3 FINAL PAGES

Construction of Front Cover

Final

Construction:
To create my magazine, I started by ensuring all my house style colours where present to then work from. From analysing existing Pop magazines it was apparently that a variety of different font types where used across the page. This was incorporated onto my page, however the mast head remained unique in comparison, in order for the brand to be recognisable. Typical conventions of magazines such as sell lines and a bar code was also used to make the front cover appear more professional. The concept of my model holding a white board work effectively as text was edited on top to make the magazine look interesting and engaging.

More conventions have been added on the second draft such as the banner above the mast head and other essential conventions such as a puff. The language used on the sell lines was colloquial and fun to engage the reader and appear on a more personal level. More shapes have been added to the background so the magazine would have the "busy" image, which most pop magazines do. Fonts have also been altered from the first draft to more fun and attracting fonts.

The third final draft I felt had achieved the look of a sophisticated pop magazine well. Many of the colours had been changed such as the strength in the use of yellow and pink, making the house style constant. Photos from the photo shoot have also been incorporated onto the cover and positioned beside the main model. Convergence links to social media platforms beneath the price code works effectively, in particular to my target audience as they would usually be a younger generation, spending a great deal of time on social media websites.

Final

The double page had the most text upon it, and the context of the magazine's main storyline was then revealed. Shapes and bright colours that follow the house style where used. Alongside the image used with the same prop, linking it to the front cover main picture.

Contents Page Construction

Final

The contents page was the one with most images and appeared to be the busiest page. Typical conventions such as an editors letter, contents navigation and a puff had been used from examples of existing pop magazines. The 3 house style colours had been incorporated onto this page, alongside an image of the front cover to make the magazine more engaging and recognisable.

Feedback

To gain an insight as to what readers would like to see on a pop magazine, I conducted a questionnaire for the students with my class to complete:
It was apparent that changes had to be made on the amount of photos used within the pages and also and issue with anchoring my genre through colour. These these factors will be considered when creating my final magazine.

Photo Shoot Plan

I created a plan to guide me through the shots I will be aiming to achieve during the photo-shoot.

Genre Research

To ensure my genre of sophisticated mainstream pop is anchored, I conducted research on the conventions and typical associations with this genre from existing magazine platforms,
Using a mood board, I was able to gather all of my representation findings and ideas which will be beneficial when constructing my magazine pages.
